Winter Learning

This winter has brought us very little snow and some extremely cold temperatures. Mountain Kids Nanny still manages to get outside for walks, sledding, and park adventures. As long as everyone has proper gear, even the infants can be out for at least 15 to 30 minutes before we go inside to warm up. Some of our favorite indoor winter places to play in Durango are: the Library, the Powerhouse, and the Train Museum.

In January, we started the year learning about germs and poop. Then, we advanced into different types of animals. It has been fun using YouTube for a game of listening to animal sounds, then having the children guess what makes the sound. Allowing the kids to decide what art projects and sensory activities we do each day has helped them stay engaged and excited about learning.

Meet Ms Mary

I have always had a passion for caring for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, and I am willing to work with other ages. With my continuing education in Early Childhood Education, I bring 6 years of professional experience from toddler classrooms, along with 4 years of creating a nanny-share format, coupled with a lifetime of nanny and babysitting experience. I am detail-oriented, organized, and a multitasker who loves to create simple lessons to help encourage your child to reach each developmental milestone. Working with mixed ages or the same while creating a supervised, safe, and stable environment for your little ones is my primary goal as a nanny and teacher.

Cleanliness is of the utmost importance to me, and I can help your littles learn the basics about washing hands and encourage picking up after play with fun little songs, supported by role modeling from me. I enjoy cooking for or with the children, age depending, of course. We will also spend time exploring Durango parks, the library, the powerhouse, the train museum, and much more.

While cleanliness is important, so is allowing children to explore and get messy. I encourage children’s development with simple lesson plans, including age-appropriate crafts and sensory play. We will spend hours outdoors exploring the world around us, learning about nature, science, and history, while encouraging physical exercise. Play will be child-led according to their own interests and encouraged with accents of media so we can all learn together.
